I’ve been with Etsy for a long time. I should have opened my shop when I first heard about them back in ’08. Hindsight and all that.

At the time I was still working a “day job” (40+ hours a week in retail…ooof) and I wasn’t really sold on the fact that someone might just pay me to make art for them.

My view on it was “Why would they pay me when they can make it themselves?” After years I have figured out that most people won’t make it for themselves either because of time, knowledge, or they just plain like the way you do it better. My friend JT says that “they pay for your eye and expertise.”

As I said, I’ve been with Etsy a long time. I’ve never really been able to generate much traffic and after nearly three years solid, I’ve only made 30 sales, and my traffic isn’t much more than 30 views a day. I think that running my own site, being able to make things how I want them to look, have things organized the way I want them to be, being able to showcase what I want to showcase, and I’d really like to not be charged for every listing. I will still keep some items on my Etsy shop, but the bulk of my art work for sale will live here.

So, we are officially building a shop here at weegonza.com. Not a link to another marketplace, but an honest to goodness shop, where I WILL RULE OVER ALL!! MUHAHAHAHA!! *cough*

Seriously though, It starts today.

Reid Park coming up this weekend!

The holidays are a really exciting time for me creatively speaking. We have shows booked every weekend through the end of the year and I really put a lot of pressure on myself to have new pieces for every show.

I have to thank my old boss Kaia for showing me how to work well with a strict deadline.

She would be at work before the sun came up and I’d show up I don’t know, 6:30 AM or so. She would’ve walked the entire bookstore figuring out what had to be done that day. Then she would come up with a list for me. She would bet me that I couldn’t get everything on that list done by the end of my shift. So I set out every morning with that list and a challenge to myself to get everything on her list done so she didn’t have to worry about it. She was my friend as well as my boss, and I enjoyed doing things for her. So instead of going someplace and having somebody give me a list, I make my own “Kaia” list every morning (or the night before depending on how crazy things are) and challenge myself to get it done by the end my “shift”. The only differences are that now my shift is 10 to 14 hours instead of eight, the list tends to be longer, and I don’t get paid for just showing up.

We’ve been working really really hard these last couple of weeks and have come up with some really beautiful new pieces.

And, not only are we bringing everything we’ve made to all of our shows now but we are also making a concerted effort to add every single box and tin to our Etsy site, making them available online as well as in person!

This is the latest going up on Etsy today:

New art Thursday…on a Friday!

Thank you for coming to see us and support local art at Phoenix Fan Fest this past weekend! We had a gas! We met so many cool folks! I swear, it seems that every time we do an event, we meet the some of the best people. We really love talking about art and what makes people interested in what we do.

If you signed up for our mailing list, either online, or at the event don’t forget to use your coupon code here!

We’re in the process of setting up a youtube channel. We’ll be posting videos of works in progress, finished pieces along with event footage. You can check out our first finished piece video here.

We just listed this new box on Etsy. Our plan is to list a new box every week, so stay tuned!

We’ve got lots of shows booked for the rest of 2017 (a new date for December) and we’re booking many more into 2018!

More dates and events TBA!
