Well, this has been a really busy last few weeks! We’ve had Retro City Fest, our first, First Friday Las Vegas show, Tempe ComicCon, Tucson Gem and Mineral Show and now we’re gearing up for Las Vegas Toy Con at the end of February!
Let me start by saying thanks to Kirsten, Jasmine and everyone else who works for the First Friday Las Vegas Foundation! It is a really well organized and well run show! Load in and load out are super easy considering how busy it is! I would definitely recommend participating in this event to my other artist friends. Also, if you’re in Vegas on a first Friday, it’s something fun to do while you’re down town. The artists and makers are amazing!
Tempe Comic Con was tons of fun! So much awesome cosplay. The volunteers worked their parts off! I personally think that we got the best one! Clayton, you ROCK!
I think my favorite CosPlay was Demogorgon.
Lots of new boxes are going up in this shop and on our Etsy shop!
My raw materials come to me in lots of different ways.
I have friends that save me parts and pieces of things, people bring me things they found on vacation or on a walk.
Most recently we were over at our friends house for the weekly “stuff our face and dungeon crawl Sunday”. There was a sizable box on her kitchen table. I looked inside; it was FULL of wee metal tins filled with even smaller mints. They were from a promotional products company. I asked her if she was going to do anything with them. She wasn’t and gave them to me on the condition that her kids keeps the mints.
So, for the next 10 minutes my friend and I studiously emptied fifty odd tins worth of tiny mints into gallon ziplock baggies.
It was a win/win. She got to keep her candy and I got art supplies!
I will say the mints were delicious, though…you know…quality control and all that.

Speaking of events, we’ve got a couple coming up pretty soon!
I’ve been with Etsy for a long time. I should have opened my shop when I first heard about them back in ’08. Hindsight and all that.
At the time I was still working a “day job” (40+ hours a week in retail…ooof) and I wasn’t really sold on the fact that someone might just pay me to make art for them.
My view on it was “Why would they pay me when they can make it themselves?” After years I have figured out that most people won’t make it for themselves either because of time, knowledge, or they just plain like the way you do it better. My friend JT says that “they pay for your eye and expertise.”
As I said, I’ve been with Etsy a long time. I’ve never really been able to generate much traffic and after nearly three years solid, I’ve only made 30 sales, and my traffic isn’t much more than 30 views a day. I think that running my own site, being able to make things how I want them to look, have things organized the way I want them to be, being able to showcase what I want to showcase, and I’d really like to not be charged for every listing. I will still keep some items on my Etsy shop, but the bulk of my art work for sale will live here.
So, we are officially building a shop here at weegonza.com. Not a link to another marketplace, but an honest to goodness shop, where I WILL RULE OVER ALL!! MUHAHAHAHA!! *cough*
Seriously though, It starts today.
